Silva's
son Mateo was born extremely prematurely in December and the midfielder has
been back and forth to Spain during the second half of the season
David Silva sent a
heartfelt message of gratitude to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola as he
missed the club's title parade to spend time with his prematurely-born son.
City's players laughed and chanted
during Monday night's open-top bus celebration but Silva, who missed the Blues'
final two games of the campaign, wasn't in attendance.
The midfielder is back in Spain with
his family and has spent much of his time there during the second half of the
season after son Mateo was born prematurely in December.
"Hi everyone, I want to
apologise for not being able to celebrate the title with you today," Silva
said in a message shown on a big screen on Deansgate.
"I want to say thank you to the
fans, my teammates, the staff, the club and especially to the manager for
understanding my situation.
"You are a top human being and
I will be indebted to you forever so thank you very much."
The Spaniard went on to pay tribute
to departing midfielder Yaya Toure, who joined the club at the same time as him
but is leaving this summer after eight seasons and six trophies in City blue.
"Finally I want to say
something to Yaya: I told you the other day that it was a pleasure to play with
you, my friend," Silva said. "I can say to my son that I played with
the best African player ever. I wish you the best of luck."
He continued: "Finally I want
to say to everyone, enjoy tonight, you deserve it. To my teammates, I want to
wish you the best of luck for the World Cup, I'll see you there. And the rest
of the people there tonight, I'll see you next season."
